We marked Dementia Action Week (17-23 May) here at Abbotsleigh Care Home with some activities to stimulate the senses.
Our residents enjoyed reminiscing and waking up their senses to the beauty and joy right here in our garden, which surrounds us daily. Even though the weather was not always on our side, we managed to enjoy some splashes of sunshine. This included going for walks and enjoying our beautiful surroundings, listening to the bird song and watching the rabbits dig up our bulbs!!
We marvelled at the old knoll trees which, like us, have a history and stories to share. We also admired the beautiful fields of bluebells.
We also hosted a tasting event with a beautiful array of fruits and a platter of chocolate to sample, which created lots of smiles and laughter!
Tickled Pink Productions
To top off the week, we welcomed performers from Tickled Pink who put on a fantastic musical show for us from our garden. The show was a called ‘Till We Meet Again… One Sunny Day‘ and was a beautiful VE Day tribute. We joined in with Union Jack bunting and flag waving! We thoroughly enjoyed their music and costumes.
The performers braved rain and winds, with the odd ray of sunshine, and proved that ‘the show must go on’, quite literally! They said it was the enjoyment on our residents’ faces which kept them going.
We would like to thank Jess and Lewis from Tickled Pink for their wonderful performance – and their dedication and endurance!
