We had some extra special visitors for the residents here at Abbotsleigh Care Home – caterpillars! From Insect Lore, we received a little clear pot containing five caterpillars and enough food for them to eat up until they’re ready to change into chrysalides.
We watched the caterpillars eat and grow, doubling in size everyday. After a few days of waiting, they attached the the top of the pot and formed their chrysalis. Their amazing transformation was complete after a few more days when they emerged as beautiful Painted Lady butterflies.
Our residents loved looking at them and they had the pleasure of releasing the butterflies into the garden. What a joy to see – nature at its finest. They inspired us to make some artwork too, and our residents painted their own butterflies.
