Reminiscence and Armchair Olympics at Abbotsleigh Care Home

Our social calendar has been a busy one recently here at Abbotsleigh Care Home.

Reminiscence

We enjoyed a coffee morning together, when our residents chatted over tea, coffee and biscuits whilst reminiscing about their childhood – including remembering first boyfriends and girlfriends!

We also played ‘Guess that tune‘ which was great fun! John F was very good at the game and instantly remembered the Dad’s Army and Emmerdale theme tunes.

Keeping fit with fun exercises

We held an ‘Armchair Olympics‘ which our residents really got behind – either as players or spectators. Lots of people watched, but those who joined in were competitive!

The tournament included darts, chair football, can skittles and ball bouncing into plastic cups (harder than it looks!).

Jenny M, Vera G, Carole, Annette W and Veronica B were all so close with their total scores. In the end, Jenny and Vera were our overall winners and were presented with prizes for being our top armchair Olympians!

We also held a ‘Sing-a-cise‘ session in our lounge. Esme, one of our Recreation and Well-Being Champions, encouraged our ladies and gents to move and dance to the music, using pompoms to get into the spirit of it!

The recent good weather has meant we could finally get outside too. We’ve enjoyed one-to-one time with our residents, sitting in the garden and soaking up the sun whilst listening to YouTube clips of their favourite singers – very relaxing.

Special birthday for Annette

Annette W enjoyed celebrating her 82nd birthday with us on Thursday 28 March, when she was presented with cards, presents, flowers and a strawberry-decorated cake – delicious! Her family came over from Australia to visit and took her out for a special celebratory lunch which she thoroughly enjoyed. Many happy returns Annette, what a memorable day!
