We welcomed the lovely Chalkdown Group Riding for the Disabled horses to Abbotsleigh Care Home recently. It was such a beautiful day for it and we are so lucky to have such lovely neeeiiigghhhhbours!
Chalkdown Group is a relatively small group with up to nine ponies of various sizes and ages. They own five of their own ponies, Lara, Fenella, Finn, Custard Pie and most recently Buttercup (Bee). The other ponies are brought along to them each week by their owners. They have a dedicated team of over 40 volunteers who make it possible for them to offer riding sessions to both adults and children with a broad spectrum of physical disabilities and learning difficulties.
We fed the horses some apples and carrots and our residents were very happy to see and spend time with them.
Now it’s getting warmer, we look forward to seeing them more often.
